Visit Felixstowe Tourism Awards And ‘Suffolk Day’ Launch

On June 21st Suffolk Day will be launched this year in Felixstowe  – and after the official opening of the new tourist season Felixstowe Forward have announced the nominations for the Felixstowe Tourism Award for 2019 – which you can vote for.

Suffolk Day is a real celebration of all things Suffolk, with a variety of events being held across the county to show off everything our part of the world has to offer.

The 2019 event will begin with BBC Radio Suffolk’s Mark Murphy broadcasting his breakfast show live from outside the Town Hall on Undercliff Road West at 7am, when he will be welcomed to the town by the Mayor of Felixstowe. At 9.45am  the Mayor, together with fellow dignitaries from across the county, will read the Suffolk Day Proclamation from the Town Hall before raising the Suffolk flag in the Town Hall Gardens. Later in the day, from 2pm – 4pm, Felixstowe Town Hall will host an afternoon tea party where Town Councillors will serve free teas and cakes to members of the public.

In the evening, St. Elizabeth Hospice will be holding their annual ‘Suffolk Remembers’ event in the Seafront Gardens. Suffolk Remembers is the opportunity to celebrate the lives of loved ones no longer with us by dedicating a candle in their memory.

Those who have lost loved ones can light up their life by dedicating a candle on the St Elizabeth Hospice site adding a special message and even a photograph too.

All dedications will appear on their website gallery and also as a physical candle at the Suffolk Remembers candlelit remembrance event. They are aiming to have 5000 candles each bearing the name of someone special and together, once lit, they will spell out
SUFFOLK REMEMBERS.

As this year’s Suffolk Day falls on a Friday, everyone is being encouraged to spread their celebrations over the weekend too. So Saturday 22nd June will see the launch of Felixstowe in Flower 2019 from 10am at the Triangle in the Town Centre.

And if any local businesses, community groups or residents have other events planned for that weekend – or would like to get involved – please contact the Town Hall on 01394 282086 or email enquiries@felixstowe.gov.uk
