Women on Wheels is coming to Rendlesham this Sunday 30 October – and we’re encouraging more women and girls to get on their bikes to have some fun and raise money for the Suffolk Royal British Legion!
Women on Wheels events are mass participation female only rides, raising money for local charities, that put a strong focus on the fun, friendly and inclusive aspects of cycling. They are very much aimed at non-cyclists and existing cyclists alike, with routes of an achievable distance, and are open to all ages.
Taking place at Army Rock Barracks, Sutton, we have two rides for people to take part in – 5km using the airfield and 15 miles travelling on the airfield and through Rendlesham Forest.
Cllr TJ Haworth-Culf, Cabinet Member for Customers, Communities and Leisure at Suffolk Coastal, said: “Women on Wheels is the perfect opportunity for girls and women of all ages to get together and have fun while importantly raising money for the Suffolk Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
“This is a great event which we hope will encourage girls to get back into cycling – we’re not looking for Olympic athletes, but women who maybe haven’t been on their bike since school. You haven’t got the excuse of saying you haven’t got a bike – as we can loan you one on the day!”
Bikes for the 5km ride will need to be suitable for riding on a 5km surface and bikes for the 15km ride will need to be suitable for off-road riding with mountain bike tyres.
They have 12 mountain bikes available for loan on the day, on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to borrow a bike, please contact: email@example.com
The 5km starts at 10:30am for £5 and the 15km ride starts at 11:30am for £15. Under 16’s are free if accompanied by an adult.
There is a small fee payable to Eventbrite for the service, 5km route £0.90 and the 15 mile route £1.52, all other monies will go to the Suffolk British Legion Poppy appeal.
